Collision Consumer's Bill Of Rights
When a car accident occurs
Your world can turn upside down. Many
people forget the fact that the need for repairs makes them consumers.
As consumers we always have choices: where you buy your
groceries, where you buy your clothes and where you fix your
car. The fact that an insurance company is paying the bill makes no
difference in your right of choice. You can choose your body shop, even
if one is suggested by an insurance company. Chances are that you've
paid a small fortune for your car. Take charge, take time to investigate
on your own. Don't make a hasty decision that you may regret.
Ways to choose a body shop are: Reputation, What have you heard about
body shops in your area from friends and relatives. Where have they been
happy? (or not) A visit to a shop is always good. The shop's appearance
can tell you a lot about its repairs. Ask to see cars in the process of
repairs. Look to see how these cars are being respected. If a shop does
not allow a tour, this may not be your shop. Ask the shop for their
guarantee policy. Each quality shop will guarantee their work. Lastly,
if your car needs to be towed into the body shop you choose, don't be
afraid to ask your shop to help you arrange this.
By Connecticut State Law you are not required to get more
than one written estimate for an insurance company. You don't have
to take your car to a drive-in claims center for an estimate. You don't
have to take your car to an insurance company specified repair shop. You
are entitled to have a damage appraisal preformed by the
insurance company at your convenience. You are entitled to
use a repair shop of your choice and have your car repaired to
pre-accident condition.
REMEMBER, IT'S YOUR CAR. IT'S YOUR CHOICE !!!!!!!!
