About Us

A & R Auto Body was started in 1969.A & R Auto Body was started in 1969

Its first home was a small building on the Winsted Road at the foot of Kennedy Drive in Torrington. Approximately two years later, in 1971, the business was moved four miles north to its current location at 3629 Winsted Road. The move was provoked by the need for space. This location was fine until 1996. Once again, more space was needed. The seams were busting and we expanded into an adjacent property and building. With this expansion, we were able to add a Customer Service Office, a "State of the Art" Paint / Refinishing Department, and other high tech equipment needed to repair today's complicated cars and trucks.

Keeping up to date with the latest in the automotive world requires constant research and development strategies. We also keep up to date with current trends in insurance claims processing and can assist our customers with any issues they might have in this area along with offering the best in collision repair. A & R Auto Body's owner / operator since the start, Randy Serkey, has a vast family history in the automobile business in the Torrington area. Randy's grandfather, Andrew Serkey owned and operated "Serkey's Junk Yard" on lower South Main, Torrington / Thomaston Road, East Litchfield. The junk yard is very well know with area "seniors" and old car buffs.

Often tails of the junk yard have been passed on to others too young to have experienced it first hand. The motto was "If it rolls or flies, I have it." The older photo on this page is of the junk yard and was taken in 1912. Randy's father, Leonard "Peanuts" Serkey (son of Andrew) owned and operated an auto body shop on South Main in Torrington and later relocated to Route 202, Litchfield in the building currently occupied by Bennett Motors. Randy worked along side of his father in the body shop from the time he could see above a steering wheel. Randy's love for collision repair is evident in the care he has taken with his customer's cars throughout his long career.
